Exploration 4

There were many important learning factors in this film. As we are shown in the film as an expert states "Americans fear inconvenience." This statement cannot be more true after I watched this film. Throughout the film we are comparing and contrasting the negativity of industrial farms and the positivity of the organic farms. First we are show how an industrial farm works. Many of us do not realize how these different farms operate we just consume the food they put into the stores. Industrial farms are mostly shown negatively in the film. An important concept we learn about how they treat the animals and the environments they are in which are called monoculture. The evidence in this film is very clear. They show actual videos of the environments these animals are in. They also show the many antibiotics these animals are exposed too. Overall we learn the negative factors on buying this these products. We also learn positive concepts in this movie. A owner of an organic farm says "We need a different vision for the future." This could not be more true after seeing how the industrial farms run. A positive learning experience in this film is seeing how when you buy the right products how beneficial it can be. Organic can seem to be very expensive and too many not worth it but it actually is very beneficial. The evidence is very clear when they specifically talk about the hens and their eggs. On an organic farm they do not put any antibiotics into the hens and let them lay their eggs on their own time. On an industrial farm they give the hens medicines to induce their egg production time and treat them badly. They state that 40 percent of the nutrients are taken out of the eggs when you do not buy organic. All of this evidence shows the theme of being aware of what you are buying and another theme of perseverance. This whole process was not easy for the organic farms but if you push through it you can really make a difference. One question I have is how can we make organic farms more popular by taking control just being consumers? A doubt I have is in the government. If we are aware of this problem shouldnt the government take control? I think I can apply this too my ideas and experience is to simply be aware of what I am buying. Anyway I can show people what is happening behind doors. We need these things to help us develop and fix problems that are happening around us.

  1. I like your question, "This whole process was not easy for the organic farms but if you push through it you can really make a difference. One question I have is how can we make organic farms more popular by taking control just being consumers?" and I the question that I developed was similar to yours. I do not understand how they can make organic foods more "popular", as you put it, for the masses to start purchasing and consuming.

  2. "An important concept we learn about how they treat the animals and the environments they are in which are called monoculture". Planting crops in the same place every time isn't really a healthy thing to do. in reusing the soil instead of rotating it and planting something different, it can bring diseases. it also causes harm to the plant or the animal.
