Exploration 4: Gabrielle

The movie 'Fresh' is really eye opening and really does make you want to change your eating habits. In that short hour of film we see so much. We see what is in the chicken litter, pesticides being sprayed all over crops, animals that look distorted, massive amounts of animals being shoved into a tiny living space, and much more. With many negatives we see, we also see some hope and positives. Farmer Joel really does give us hope that maybe someday people will open up their eyes and go back to how it used to be. He shows us how his animals are grass fed instead of corn fed, we see the cows and chickens in large space, and mainly we see the chickens and cows working together to keep the healthy process to continue. He gives us hope.
A theme that was played out in 'Fresh' was inconvenience. "Americans fear one thing...inconvenience." That quote was said right in the beginning of the film and it is 100% true. Instead of going to the market and and getting fresh produce to snack on, we stay in cars and swing through the drive-thru's. Another quote that was said was, " The more processed a food is, the less nutritious it is."But once again, we know that fast-food is not healthy nor good at all for us but we get it because it is convenient and we keep them in business. Another way inconvenience is shown in the film is simply our average day grocery stores. We may think that by going into the produce section that we are being super healthy, but really are not. There is pesticides filled with chemicals all over that produce we eat from our average grocery store. The poultry is even toxic. It does not contain the naturalness to it like an organic farm poultry would. The cows are fed dead cows when they are supposed to be eating grass because they are herbivores. But why do farmers do this? For  mass production, efficiency, and conveniency. Joel and all the other natural farmers want this to be different. They want grass fed cows, no antibiotics put into the animals system, no fertilizers on the grass that the animals eat, and mainly they simply just want healthy animals to give us a healthy person.
"Cheap food is an illusion." What is sad about this statement is that it is very true. The super healthy food that is good for us like organic food, cost us more. That is why many people do not go and get the healthier food for them because they do not have the money to spend on all that. Instead a lot of Americans only have a budget for the cheaper food that is bad for us. This can make us question: What am I really putting into my body? It is hard for us to think about what we are actually putting into our bodies because it is disgusting. Hopefully one day all of our food is natural and we can all be a healthy society.

  2. Gabrielle, i thought the end paragraph was where your were best at your writing. "The super healthy food that is good for us like organic food, cost us more" It really goes into depth of how people think. and its really a fact that is true. If only people could afford to eat organic food. And other troubling fact if that they don't have access to local markets.

  3. I really like this quote ""Cheap food is an illusion." What is sad about this statement is that it is very true. The super healthy food that is good for us like organic food, cost us more." I think it is true because most industrialized company use the lower supply cost but they sell higher price. Most organic food should be sell higher price because the food had a lot nutrition!

  6. "The movie 'Fresh' is really eye opening and really does make you want to change your eating habits." I agree with this statement. When watching this film you are shown the pros and cons about buying organic or industrial food. You really explain the film well in your exploration making it very clear the Americans really do not want to buy the organic food because it is more expensive. I do also think this because if it easier and cheaper to do one thing Americans will do that.
