Exploration 7: Jai Patel

The film that we watched in class was about the 1950s and 60s civil rights movement. A lot of things stuck out to me while watching this film. The film talked about how blacks were treated. If the African americans never put there foot down and stood up for there rights then nothing would of been solved and blacks wouldn't of have the same rights as the whites. To me the MLK made this movement work, if it wasn't for him then this whole thing wouldn't of happened. Sure there where people that wanted to make a change and stand up for the right but no one took action besides MLK. Another thing that made this movement work was all the support that people gave MLK and how many people put there foot down with him and how many people went to jail for him or with him. The quote that I really like is from MLK when he said " Alabama needs to face the fact that we are determined to be free" I really like that quote because it shows how determined they are and how passionate they are for freedom.       The group that I picked was the KKK. KKK stands for Ku Klux Klan. "The KKK informally known as The Klan or the "Hooded Order", is the name of three distinct past and present far-right organizations in the United States, which have advocated extremist reactionary currents such as white supremacywhite nationalism, and anti-immigration, historically expressed through terrorism. Since the mid-20th century, the KKK has also been anti-communist. The current manifestation is splintered into several chapters with no connection to each other; it is classified as a hate group by the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center. It is estimated to have between 5,000 and 8,000 members as of 2012." "Today, many sources classify the Klan as a "subversive or terrorist organization". In April 1997, FBI agents arrested four members of the True Knights of the Ku Klux Klan in Dallas for conspiracy to commit robbery and to blow up a natural gas processing plant. In 1999, the city council of Charleston, South Carolina passed a resolution declaring the Klan to be a terrorist organization. In 2004, a professor at the University of Louisville began a campaign to have the Klan declared a terrorist organization in order to ban it from campus."

  1. The KKK did a lot of bad things to the African americans, and still kept doing those bad things after the civil war. They were widely spread out, and caused a lot of trouble for the African American people.

  2. I think the black beaten is really stand out in this film and how they struggle with the civil right movement. I think the MLK is a great leader in the movement. Th KKK is a dangerous group because they think violent action is good and they have their own belief.

  3. I think you did a great job on your exploration 7. The KKK is a very bad group of people who wear white hoods to hide their identities. The KKK was basically a terrorist group, whose main job is to terrorize the African Americans and anyone that supports them by burning a cross in their lawn. You choose a nice picture to describe this. Good Job!
